Helcia

Lindley , in Bot. Reg. 31 (1845) Misc .p. 17 .

Oncidieae. III. Lat. helcium (horse -collar ; yoke ). From the hollow , hairy pit at the base of the lip which , when seen from the front , looks , with the anther and column , " like an old-fashioned head-dress peeping over one of those starched high collars such as ladies wore in the days of Queen Elizabeth ; or through a horse collar decorated with gaudy ribbons."
