Rhizanthelleae. XI. Gr. rhiza (root),anthos(flower). Diminutive of Rhizanthes, a saprophytic plant of the Rafflesiaceae. Alluding either to the inflorescence ,which is borne directly on the subterranean rhizomes ,or to the resemblance in the saprophytic and almost wholly underground growth -habit of the orchid to that of the rafflesiaceous plant.
