Amesiella philippinensis

This is a small plant with large non-fragrant flowers. Flowers come complete with a spear.A tiny epiphyte with a short stem and singular flowers -monotypic (single) genus as the name implies from the Philippines . The species was found in 1906, discovered by E.D. Merrill on the forested slopes of Mt. Halcon and described by Professor Oakes Ames in 1907 as Angraecum philippinese. The shortened stem is covered with up to 2.2 in/5.5 cm long thick leaves arranged in two rows ,and the very short short flower spike bears 1-3 exceptionally large flowers (up to 2 in /5 cm in diameater ). The tepals are white ,the inside of the three-lobe lip is honey -brown . The cultivation is the same as with the genus Angraecum (the monotypic genus Amesiella was excluded from it in 1972). T he plant blooms in spring and comes from the Philippines .
