Angraecum scottianum

The Angraecum family of orchids is native to the tropical and sub-tropical lowlands of Africa and Madagascar. This species has a thin ,overhanging stem that is up to 12 in /30 cm long and covered with terete leaves of about 4 in /10 cm in length . A prominent nectary is the common trait. Although a few become huge plants, most are small to miniature that grow into nice specimens. The white and relatively big (up to 2.4 in /6 cm) flowers are borne singly or in pairs. They have a snow -white and typically shell -shapped lip with a long ,narrow spur pointing backward . The other tepals are yellowish .The species is rather easy to cultivate (see previous representatives of the genus ), it blooms in late summer and in the fall. It was discovered in the Comoro Islands .Most are not high light requiring and are happy with intermediate temperatures.
