Batemannia colleyi is commonly known as Colley's Batemannia [English Orchid Collector 1800's] .All the five species of the genus Batemannia grow in the rainforests of the Amazon basin. The medium- height epiphyte , Batemannia colleyi is very rarely cultivated. It has egg-shaped pseudobulbs that are up to 2 in/5 cm long and quadrangular in cross-section. Two long lanceolate leaves are borne at the top . Sometimes even several overhanging inflorescences with 2-6 flowers , up to 6in/ 15 cm across, grow out of the pseudobulbs. The leaves are fleshly and cream-white, with a tinge of brown. It is advisable to grow the plants epiphytically or in flower pots with a coarse epiphytic mix for adequate drainage. The flowers appear in early spring. The plant has a large geographical range- from Colombia, Venezuela and Guiana to Bolivia and Brazil.
