Brassavola cucullata

Brassavola cucullata

Brassavola cucullata genus includes some of the highly distinctive orchids that attract atttenction even outside the flowering period with their narrow , highly succulent cylindrical leaves (that grow out of dwarf, thin, stick-shaped pseudobulbs). And when it finally blooms , the plants look all the more attractive! The species Brassavola cucullata is the longest and most arched of all Brassavola orchids. This characteristic applies both to the leaves and the flowers:the leaves are narrow, with an orbicular cross-section and up to 14 in /35 cm long, and the yellowish -white flowers have arched tepals that reach a length of up to 4.4 in/11 cm. Likewise, the lip is ostensibly long and looks like a ribbon. and to add yet another elongated organ-each flower is borne by an ovary that reaches a length of up to 6 in /15 cm! Brassavola cucullata .In the wild grows almost vertically on barren tree bark, wherefore it ought to be grown attached to a slab of bark or a thick stick. Flowerpot cultivation is unnatural and rather risky (the roots tend to mold). Over the summer ,you can hang the suppoerts with the orchids outside in semi-shade on a place protected from rain. After a few weeks of ''fasting'', the plant can even achieve the blooming period twice a year, if watered and fertilized regularly in the course of the year. Brassavola cucullata blooms irregularly, but up to twice a year in cultivation The original home of this orchid is Mexico , other Central American countries and Venezuela.
