Brassia maculata

Brassia maculata is a intermediate growing Central American species, very adaptable to the orchid house. This species flowers are not so extended as those of Brassia longissima. Their cultivation requirements and the apperance of the green parts make the two species almost identical, but Brassia maculata's pseudobulbs are a little bigger. The flowers spike can bear up to 20 greenish flowers, each with a whitish, shiny-brown -dotted lip. The length of the extended seapals does not exeed 4 in / 10 cm. B. maculata blooms from late summer to latefall Brassia maculata is grown like a typical Oncidium, in a small pot in a well drained media. Plenty of sunlight, copious water and fertiliser when in active growth and good ventilation are the requirements for most Brassias and Oncidiums. The original home of the orchid is in Cuba, Jamaica, Guatemala and Honduras.
