cattleya bicolorAn epiphytic or lithophytic orchid, a lover of cool, humid air -for in the wild it grows in stream canyons at medium elevations. The plants form slender ,60-cm-tall or smaller pseudobulbs that are not thickend , as is typical with Cattleya orchids. The flower spike bears up to 5 flowers that can be 4.8 im / 12 cm in diameter and have a pink crimson lip and olive-brown tepals. They occur between August and September, and last for a maximum of 3-4 weeks. Cultivation is not very complicated : the best thing to do is to place the plant in an epiphyticbasket and suspend it at a well -ventilated and rather humid and cool place in the greenhouse . During the summer months ,you can suspend the plant from the crown of a fruit tree, but make sure to mist it freequently whenever the weather gets particularly sultry. Cattleya bicolor comes from Brazil, where it was discovered as far back as in 1836.
