christensonia vietnamica

christensonia vietnamica

This species is living proof that an attrctive orchid with showy flowers can be discovered even today . It resembles the genus Vanda in appearance:sparse inflorescences bearing large yellow -and- green flowers with a broad pure white lip grow out of the axils of the leaves that are arranged in two rows . This small light -loving epiphyte has the same requirements as the orchids of the genus Vanda. Cut down on watering a little in winter and decrease temperature ; this is the only way the plant can cope with the lack of light .Flowers appear between December and July . The species was not described until 1993 ,when specimens were collected in southern Vietnam ,despite the fact that it is quite widespread in that region!
