chysis bractescens

chysis bractescens

Orchids belonging to the small genus Chysis have a very singular morphology,an intriguing life cycle and pretty flowers . The species C. bractescens is characterized by long ,spindle -shaped ,partite pseudobulbs which overhang the plant and ,at the time of growth ,a covering of 5-7 leaves that later fall off. The lateral spikes grow simultaneously with the springing of new shoots and are fairly short . One inflorescence bears 10 yellow ,fleshy flowers that are 2.8 in/7 cm in size and have a china -like apperance . The lip is yellow ,with red embellishment . This attractive species is not difficult to cultivate :grow it epiphytically on slabs of bark ,in warm semi-shade. After the pseudobulbs fully mature , treat the plant to a significantly cool and dry period of rest.C.bractescenc blooms between May and June and comes from Mexico and Guatemala.
