A delicate representative of dwarf Asian epiphytic orchids with extended stems . C. simondii has green,scarcely lignifying and very rarely branched shoots that reach lengths of up to 12 in/30 cm .They bear two sparse rows of fleshy leaves that are 2-3.2 in /5-8 cm long and almost round in cross -section . Plenty of aerial roots grow out of the stems. The overhanging inflorescence bears up to 15 rather showy flowers that are almost 4 in/1.5 cm in diameter. The tepals are brown -and -yellow with dark lengthwise stripes,and the lip is purple with a blunt spur -like protuberance at the bottom. Cleistosoma orchids are among popular specimens of small botanical collections and are frequently offered by Thai orchid farms . Nobody needs to be afriad to cultivate them; mount the plants on a cork support , for example , and provide them with sufficient light and warmth ,complemented with frequent watering during vegetation. Reduce temperature and watering intensity somewhat in the winter . C. simondii blooms between October and November and is native to Thailand and other countries in sothern Asia.
