coelogyne-dayana

coelogyne-dayana

These robust plants are inconspicuous outside the flowering period . Everything changes as soon as a curious serrated stick springs from the clusters of robust pseudobulbs . In a matter of days, this curious shape turns into a rope-like overhanging inflorescence over 3 ft /1 meter across and bearing a number of showy flowers. Sadly, their beauty is extremely transient : the whole show lasts no more than several days! The species has narrow ,egg-shaped pseudobulbs bearing two narrow ,lanceolate leaves with leangthwise waving . The lip is white with a chocolate -brown decoration and white crests, the other tepals are cream white . The inflorescence grow from the top parts of the newly-forming shoots; unlike the case of C. massangeana, these shoots later develop in to ordinary pseudobulbs(proterant inflorescences). This species is not very difficult to cultivate: the plants require medium warmth , semi-shade and are in permanent need of a slightly moist root environment . Do not transport or replant them unless you absolutely have to. The species does not have a clearly -defined rest period. If the plant begins to produce flowers , place or hang it in a way that will allow the inflorescence to grow undisturbed in a downward direction. These species is native to Thailand , Malayan Peninsula ,Borneo ,Java and Sumatra.
