Comperia comperiana

This curiously -named orchid is remarkable chiefly for the intensely elongated thread -like points of its three-lobed lips. It is the only representative of an isolated genus unrelated to any other. it survives in the ground by virtue of its two ball-shaped bulbs . Its ground leaf rosette consists of only 2-4 extended oval leaves reaching lengths of 6 in /15 cm . The sparse inflorescence is up to 10 in /25 cm long and consists of 20 -30 showy flowers. The tepals are colored in greenish brown ,the lip is mauve ;both of its lateral lobes ,as well as the two points on the middle lobe, are extended into super -thin twisted protuberances reaching lengths of up to 3.2 in/8 cm . The species grows in light coniferous or deciduous forests in alpine elevations . Flowers appear between May and July . C.comperiana inhabits only the edge of Europe (Crimea);the main area of its natural habitat is Asia Minor.
