The reversed flowers of the genus Cycnoches are chacteristic by a long,thin and elegantly arched column is the shape of a swan's neck ;hence the nickname -swan orchid . The species is C.loddigessi has unique extended, spindle -shaped pseudobulbs that are 3.2 -6 in / 8-15 cm in diameter. The flowers are purple with a tinge of green,the reversed lip is whitish and covered with delicate purple spots. The showy and very decorative ''swan-neck ''column is deep red at the base , with green -and- red stripes at the end. The plant has no specific requirements ;grow it in the same way as related plants (see Catasetum macrocarpum). The flowers apper in the summer. The plant is known to grow in Venezuela,Colombia and Brazil.
