Some species of the genus cycnoches occur in regions where periods of rain and drought alternate more markedly .The plants are adapted to that and survive the drought with the help of massive ,highly resistant, grooved pseudobulbs covered with a membranous casing. With the advent of the moister season ,the seemingly dead organs come alive again ;they produce new foliaged shoots with lateral flower spikes. subsequently ,the shoot give rise to a new generation of pseudobulbs that are usually a little bigger each time. The photo of an unspecified plant was taken on an intensively insolated tree trunk in southern Mexico,near the Aqua Azul Cascades.
