Cymbidium-finlaysonianum

One of the exceptions that prove the rule :C.finlaysonianum is so thermophilic that it would definitely perish if exposed to the cool conditions used for the common Cymbidium hybrids. The species has strongly reduced pseudobulbs bearing multiple leaves that are up to 20 in/50 cm long ,tough and shaped like a belt . The inflorescence is overhanging and consists of up to a few dozen flowers:they are 1.2 -2 in/3-5 cm in diameter,colored in brownish yellow mixed with red ,with the lip set off by a lighter shade. C. finlaysonianum grows epiphytically and comes from the warmer and moister elevations of southern Asia . Cultivation is similar to the case of the preceding species ,but the temperature should not drop under 68 F/20 C,not even in the winter .
