dendrobium-aggregatum

This species belongs to a minority within the genus Dendrobium,as its egg-shaped ,quadrangular and apparantly aggregated (hence the Latin name ), unifliate pseudobulbs have atypically only one groove. That is one of the reason why the species is some times classified as a member of a eparate genus Callista. Up to 15 deep yellow flowers grow on a compact overhanging raceme on the side of the pseudobulb. At the time of vegitation, this epiphyte needs an abundance of warmth ,sunshine and water,as opposed to the winter, when the cooler and drier environment is required . The plant blooms between March and May and comes from the Himalayas,Burma, Thailand and Laos.
