dendrobium-cuthbertsonii

A miniature orchid that stands out from the genus not only for its apperance, but also the manner of cultivation. A much sought -after rarity ,its beautiful tubular flowers are up to 2 in/5 cm in diameter and dwarf the small (o.8-1.2 in /2-3 cm) ,stick -shaped pseudobulbs and the equally small,tough,rough-surfaced leaves . The color of the flowers varies - there are specimens colored in pastel shades of dark red, brick orange, yellow and purple . The plants do not require a period of rest and their roots should never be left to overdry;therefore,it is advisable to grow this species in flowerpots. Excessive summer heat may also be harmful. The flowers are durable and appear practically all year round, most often in the spring and summer.D. cuthbertsonni is native to the alpine altitudes (7,380-9,840 ft /2,250-3000 m above sea level)of New Guinea.
