dendrobium-hercoglossum

A semi-deciduous species processing long pseudobulbs , with an unusual color of flowers-by dendrobium standards . The light purple (bluish in some instances)symmetrical flowers hve a waxy appearance and a dark purple purple cap in the middle (part of reproduction organs known by its Latin name anthera ). The lip is whitish , with a pointed purple tip. Grow it epiphyticaly on a bare slab of cork or in an epiphytic basket . The partly overhanging pseudobulbs require a substantial period of rest before blooming . The flowers appear between March and May . The species is known to grow in the south west of China, Thailand ,Indochina and Malaysia.
