dendrobium-kingianum

Perhaps every ameatur orchid grower must have owned a D. kingianum early in his cultivation career . It is a completely undemanding species . As it is also easy to propagate by divition of bunches or by forming daughter pseudobulbs, it was passed among people until recently . An even greater popularity of this species was prevented by its unwillingness to bloom and the fact that the flowers are small and rather unsightly. The conic pseudobulbs are 6in/15 cm tall and bear 4-5 leaves. An erect raceme of 3-8 tiny flowers grows their apex, the color of the flowers ranges between puple and white with a tinge of pink .D. kingianum is a very cryophilic species that can be grown ,for instance ,along with Cymbidium orchids. The flowering season comes in the spring . The species is native to eastern Australia.
