dendrobium-nobile

One of the best -known species of the whole genus has been used to create a large number of decorative hybrids serving mainly to please the eye of amateur orchid growers . Nowadays , the orginal species is almost completely replaced with colorful hybrids that are livelier and more eager to bloom . The only disadvantage of this orchid is the large size of its thick, irregularly swollen ,extended pseudobulbs. Two or three flowers ranging in color between light purple and pink appear on the individual joints of the upper parts of the pseudobulbs. The flower lip sports a dark purple spot in the gullet . The species is abundant in amateur collections ,partly for its ability to create daughter plants on the apics of its old pseudobulbs. The flowers are induced to grow only in an environment that is sufficiently dry, light and cool. The species can be cultivated in a flowerpot or basket,as well as epiphytically ,D.nobile blooms between March and May and is native to a vast Asian area that includes southern China, the Himalayas,Nepal ,Thailand ,Laos ,Vietnam and Taiwan.
