dendrobium-sandere

A species closely related to ,and identical in appearance and cultivation with ,the orchid D. dearei. It is one of the indeciduous representatives of the genus -large flowers appear on the apices of the pseudobulbs between vivdly green leaves. The pseudobulbs are quite long -20- 28 in/50 -70 cm. The large white flowers reach lengths of up to 3.6 in/9 cm and are decorated with a largish spur and a wide ,two -lobed lip embellished with a red marking . The species is not very suitable for amateur collections,as it is quite bulky . If you wish to grow this species , do so in somewhat moist ,warm conditions ,without a substantial period of rest. The flower open in the fall -between November and December-and the plant comes from Luzon in the Philippines.
