dendrobium-sulcatum

The pseudobulbs of this impressive species are intensely swollen with sideways grooves ,they are flattened on the sides and bear 3-4 egg-shaped leaves in the species that reach lengths of 6 in / 15 cm . If the summer is particularly dry, the plant sheds all its foliage ; if it is somewhat moist ,overhanging inflorescences can appear between the surviving leaves. The flowers are 1.4 in /3.5 cm across, yellow, with a velvity ,frilly lip embellished with red markings, and 10-20 of them populate a dense, compact raceme. Grow the plant epiphytically. While it is recommended to reduce watering in winter,do not'' force'' the plant to shed all its leaves by exposing it to excessive drought. The flowering season comes in the spring. The plant is native to Thailand.
