dendrobium-tobaense

D. tobaense is a highly valued and very rarely cultivated species. It blooms from warmer regions with out a substantial drought period ,which is why its intensly long and rather thin pseudobulbs usually keep their foliage . The heighlights of the plant are its medium-sized star -shaped flowers that feature a color combination atypical of Dendrobium orchids . The yellow -and -white tepals are decorated with green venation and each is ended with a showy long ,narrow tip. The lip is orange -and-red at the base and its tip is extended in to a whitish ,narrow ,tongue-shaped protuberance. The cultivation requirements of the plant are similar to other thermophilic representatives of the genus. It blooms in early summer and grows in northern Sumatra.
