dendrochilum-ianiariense

What makes the genu Dendrochilum special is the ''architecture'' of its inflorescences:multitudes of tiny flowers are crowded on arched , overhanging spikes. The species D. ianiariense has -as -do other Dendrochilum orchids-intensely reduced ,unfoliate with color-interval streaking (1.6 in/4 cm long),each tipped with a long (over 8 in /20 cm) ,narrow and very tough leaf. The inflorescence consists of two opposite rows of peculiar green -and- yellow flowers; its appearance is somewhat unusual ,resembling a chimneysweep's brush. It is an epiphytic ,and occasionally terrestrial species ,which means that it can be grown suspended (if you cultivate it in this way ,add a little Sphagnum moss to its roots),or in a permeable finegrain mix in a flowerpot . The inflorescence appears irregularly, most often between early spring and fall. The species comes from southeastern Asia.
