dinema-polybulbon

A very pretty miniature orchid ,closely related to the genus Encyclia . It's just a shame that the large and decorative flowers do not appear on the plant more oftern. The oval pseudobulbs of this orchid are truly ''pocket sized '' -they reach a length of only 0.8 in/2 cm ;they are sparsely distributed on a trailing rhizome and bear a pair of leaves reaching lengths of about 2 in/5 cm . The yellow-and-brown flowers with broadened whitish lip grow individually on short flower spikes . Its proportions and vitality (up to several new generations of pseudobulbs are added every year) make the plant suitable for any amateaur collection, and help it thrive even in glass cases . Cultivation is not difficult -the epiphytically grown plants will settle for a piece of pine bark for support ,a semi-shady environment and occasional fertilization. The only problem is that the plant is sometimes unwilling to bloom; in order to induce blooming ,you may provide the plant with a brief period of rest. The plant blooms in the winter months and comes from the central part of Central America-including Mexico and Guatemala and the adjacent islands in the Carbbean.
