domingoa-hymenodes

This species with attractive and rather large flowers is popular mainly with lovers of miniature orchids . The plant forms tiny stem pseudobulbs bearing single fleshy ,narrowly lancelote leaves. Long flower spikes with 1-2 flowers grow out of the apices of the pseudobulbs ;the tottal number of flowers produced on one spike can, nevertheless,be a lot higher because flowers may appear on it many succesive years. The flower spike is intensely elongated and crimson red ,embossed, lengthwise nervation . The flowering period is irregular-the flowers appear up to several times a year. Cultivation is not very complicated :grow the plant epiphytically , in semi-shade,on a bare slab of bark. The old and seemingly dry flower spikes should never be removed after the end of the flowering period. Besides Cuba, the plant appears in Haiti and other islands in the Caribbean.
