encyclia-fucata

A very pretty, smallish and rather undemanding species . Great numbers of it used to be collected in Cuba. Its bifoliate pseudobulbs are 1.2 -2.4 in /3.6 cm long ,the elongated leaves are firm ,tough and they signal the plant's higher lighting demands . Some 15-30 pretty , small(1 in /2.5 cm across) flowers appear on a panicle inflorescence that reaches a length of 20 in / 50 cm . The tepals are yellow and the lip is whitish ,embellished with red venation . This plant is suitable for cultivation and comes from fairly dry and sunny regions. Grow it epiphytically and counter balance the lack of light in winter by reducing the temperature . E. fucata flowers in late, spring and summer and is native to the Caribbean islands.
