encylia-gracilisAnother pretty collection orchid of the genus Encyclia. Its showy flowers open in the winter . The 2-in /5 -cm tall pseudobulbs of E. gracilis are of an -like appearance and bear a couple of tough leaves that reach lengths of 8 in /20 cm . Some 7-15 flowers grow in a usually unbranched inflorescence and are about 1 in /2.5 cm in diameter . Their basic color ranges between green -and -yellow and green -and-brown ,the lip is whitish ,with pinkish venation. The plant is fairly undemanding in culture and should be grown in the same way as the other epiphytic,Encyclia orchids (see E. alata),except that the temperature requirements of E.gracilis are lower . The species blooms between September and December and comes from the Bahamas.
