euchile-mariae

The only close relative of the previous species ,with equally exotic, white flowers . In contrast to E.citrinum ,its unifoliate ,pear-shaped pseudobulbs grow in an erect position . Two to three longish leaves form on the apex of each pseudobulbs . The greenish flowers are dominated by a frilled ,snow-white lip with green venation and a yellowish center. Grow this orchid in a similar manner as you would its yellow-flowered relative, except that E. mariae's demands of cool temperature and perfect ventilation are some what lower. the species was not discovered until 1937 and is used today for breeding green-flowered hybrids. It blooms in the spring and comes from higher elevations in Mexico.
