hexisea-bidentata

hexisea-bidentata

The flowers of the small genus Hexisea resemble Epidendrum orchids. Their slim ,spindle-shaped pseudobulbs are characterized by one idiosyncrasy-sometimes they grow ''daughter''pseudobulbs on the apex. The bifoliate pseudobulbs of H. bidentata reach lengths of up to 2.4 in/6 cm and are covered with dry sheaths . Their apices give rise to the above -mentioned new storage organs or a sparse spike of 3-5 shiny yellow flowers . 1.2 in/3 cm across. The epiphytic species thrives in the semi-shade of a well-ventilated orchid greenhouse. It blooms in the summer and its habitat includes the area between Costa-Rica and Colombia.
