holcoglossum-subulifolium

A very showy orchid when in bloom ; outside of the flowering period ,it is an inconspicuous and hard -to- maintaint plant . It resembles both of the previous species in appearance ,the sticklike leaves range in color between green and dark red, depending on the intensity of light ,between 2-5 white flowers appear on a spike that is shrter than the leaves,they reach lengths of up to 2.4 in/6 cm and attract attention mainly by their wide ,tongue -shaped lip with a firmbriated edge. The base of lip is decorated with a tawny marking . Cultivation failures (slow growth ,unwillingness to bloom and molding of the plants) are caused by the enormous photophilia of this orchid. H. subulifolium flowers in late spring and comes from southern China.
