laelia-fidelensis

laelia-fidelensis

A species that is easy to grow even in apartment ,but unfortunately quite rare and threatened with extinction in the wild . Sadly and paradoxically, this is not due to the fact that it does not grow in reservations and its habitats are therefore little known ... In addition ,the plant was not listed among the most endangered species of the world (eventhough it undoubtedly belongs on that list ), which would have increased its attractiveness. The plant is rather decumbent and eager to branch out fast. Its unifoliate ,barrel-shaped ,yellowish pseudobulbs are only 10-4-6 in/ 15cm long .1-2 pale purple flowers ,0.4-0.8 in/1-2 cm across, grow on a slightly overhanging spike. The lip is a shade darker and broadened at the base to assume the shape of a heart. Grow it without a substantial period of rest in an environment that is warm and light through out the year . The plant blooms in the spring (sometimes also in the fall)and comes from Rio de Janeiro,Brazil.
