laelia-rubescens

laelia-rubescens

Systemically ,this species belongs with cryophilic Mexican species represented ,for instance ,by L.autumnalis;however ,it is the only one of them also grows in another Central American country .Moreover ,it differs from the rest in its smaller proportions and the shape of its flattened ,oval, glossy pseudobulbs that each bears a single elongated oval leaf. The firm and thin flower spike reaches a length of up to 20 in /50 cm and bears 3-7 flowers . The 2-2.4 in/5-6 cm-large flowers are either pure white or pinkish purple . The color of the three -lobed lip is reminiscent of Dendrobium orchids:it has a deep purple throat, providing a stark contrast with the yellow decoration on the middle lobe . The flowers appear in the winter, both in culture and in the natural habitat of Mexico and Guatemala.
