Laelia-sincorana

Laelia-sincorana

A species closely related to L. pumila. Compared to L. pumila, its unifoliate pseudobulbs are even smaller and barrel-shaped and reach lengths of 0.8 -1.2 in/2-3 cm . The leaves are also wider and shorter (up to 4 in/ 10 cm ). Usually a single flower grows on each short spike. Since their habitat is not characterized by a very high level of air moisture, they can be quite successfully grown even on a windowsill. If cultivated in an apartment ,they should be planted in a medium-coarse substrate in a flowerpot ;in greenhouses ,the plants also prosper if grown epiphytically . In any case ,their development is extremely slow . Flowers appear in the spring and early summer. The plant comes from the Serra,Sincora mountains(hence its name)in Bahia,Brazil.
