ludisia-discolor

The name of the genus was a subject of dispute for some time ;in the end,the name Ludisia was recognised by as valid. Nevertheless .most cultivators know the representatives of the genus by their old name of ''Haemaria''. The genus includes only one species that is ,however ,highly variable in the color of its oval leaves . A fundamental part of the flower is a thickned ,soft ,succulent ,decumbent stem ended with an ascending apex that keeps growing . The terminal dense raceme of tiny white flowers contrasts nicely the dark color of the velvety leaves with the color ranging between brown -and-green and brown -and -red . But be careful :their color also depends on the intensity of light they are exposed to ;in excessive shade the plants assume an almost pure green color ! For many years now ,L. discolor has been a highly popular collection species(partly thanks to its capacity for rapid vegetative propogation). It blooms between the fall and spring and comes from the southwest of Asia.
