Meiracyllium-trinasutumThe genus Meiracyllium includes only two species ,both of which are splendid looking orchids. They have reduced pseudobulbs and oval ,intensely thickened leaves. The species M.trinasutum is somewhat smaller than its lower mentioned relative. Each of the dwarfed pseudobulbs bears a single reddish,2-in/5 cm -long ,oval or almost round-shaped leaves. The inflorescences number up to 6 flowers and grow out of the basis of the leaves . The flowers are 0.8 in/2 cm across, pinkish purple ,and their lower sepals are grown together. The lip is a shade darker than the other tepals. The species is a true gem of any collection as it is exceptionally attractive even when not in bloom. Some problems in cultivation may be caused by mold attacking the newly forming shoots and root tips. Grow the plants epiphytically on a piece of durable bark (pine, cork oak)and supply sufficient amount of diffused light . M,trinasutum blooms between late spring and summer and is known to grow in Cuba, Guatemala,Salvador and Mexico.
