meiracyllium-wendlandii

meiracyllium-wendlandii

Compared to the previous species ,this orchid is a little better-known and more common in collections. Its pseudobulbs are also intensely reduced and the storage function is overtaken by its highly succulent leaves. The name of the genus is derived from the Greek word meirakyllion (small boy ) and obviously refers to the size of the plants. Small differences can be observed in the morphology of the flowers:in the case of M.wendlandii, the lip is less saclike (that is the bulging blunt protuberance is absent from its lower part)and the column is thinner at the base. The species blooms in the winter and its natural habitat is in Mexico and Guatemala.
