Mexicopedilum-xerophyticum

Mexicopedilum-xerophyticum

The dernier cri in the world of orchids! Its first specimens were discovered in the xerophilous vegetation of the Bay of Mexico coastal region only a little over a decade ago-in1991.At first ,the plants were considered to be a new species of the genus Phragmipedium (or Cypripedium), but their external features called for establishing a brand new genus! The ground rosettes of the stiff ,belt -shaped leaves can form lateral daughter shoots, the whitish flowers grow slightly on a 14-in /35-cm-long scape and their proportions are minuscule (0.6-0.8 in /1.5-2 cm ). There is little information available on how to cultivate the species . The home of this surprising find is Oaxaca,Mexico.
