Militonia spectabilis

Militonia spectabilis

The species M. spectabilis is one of the ''pedigree'' representatives of the genus -its classification is ,in comparison with other species- completely unquestionable , mainly thanks to its trailing rhizome bearing tall, flat, slim, bifoliate pseudobulbs, about 2.8 in/7 cm far from each other . Single flowers appear ,simultaneously with the new shoots ,between the bases of the new leaves ,and resemble pansies in shape. The flowers on a typical M.spectabilis are white with natably broadened ,flat , purple lips adorned with yellow stripes and red venation. The color of the flowers varies ; one of the popular color variations has dark red flowers (var. moreliana). M.spectabilis is beloved by orchid fans for its delicate beauty and durability of its flowers. It is widely used for creating resistant and gorgeous -looking ''potted'' hybrids. Grow it in the same as M.clowesii. Flowers can be expected between the spring and summer. The plant comes from Brazil.
