Miltoniopsis phalaenopsis

Miltoniopsis phalaenopsis

This species used to be considered a member of the genus Miltonia but it was later excluded on the grounds of its unifoliate pseudobulbs,as well as differences in the flower morphology . The white flowers with a lip adorned in red and yellow are, admittedly ,rather small (up to 2 in /5 cm ), but despite this they exceptionally beautiful ,resembling the flat flowers of pansies. Being a plant native to cooler mountain elevations,M. phalaenopsis needs to be grown in a way similar to the cryophilic orchids of the genus Odontoglossum. It requires plenty of diffused light, good ventilation, slightly lower temperatures all year round and a more substantial winter break. It blooms between July and October and has been found in Colombia.
