Mormolyca sp

Mormolyca sp

An insignificant genus numbering about 6 species that resemble Maxillaria orchids inappearance. The best known number of the genus is M.ringens, which grows in an area between Mexico and Costa Rica;the species in the photo taken in Bolivia is rarer and its name is probably M. gracilipes. Mormolyca orchids are characterized by unifoliate pseudobulbs growing on a short rhizome. Their thin leaves are up to 12 in /30 cm long, same as the one -flowered spikes . The flowers are 1.2 in/ 3 cm in diameter with yellow ,brown-striped tepals and a brown three-lobed lip . Grow them in the same way as Maxillaria orchids. The Bolivian plant in the photo blooms in the winter.
