Oncidium carthagenense

As with the previous species ,O. carthagenense has no pseudobulbs and store water in its intensely thickned leaves reaching lengths of over 16 in /40 cm . Their surface ,much like the similar species O.luridum,is speckled with red dots . The shape of their ears earned the plants the nickname ''dog ears ''. The branched ,flowerspike bearing many sparse flowers reaches length of 5 ft /150 cm . The decorative flowers are 0.8 in/2 cm across and their color is atypical by the genus ' standard-they are whitish with reddish spots. The lip is markedly three-lobed with a yellow- and- red base . Both aforementioned species have identical ,equally undemanding requirements;they are happy in a warm environment in a modestly shaded greenhouse . Excessive humidity coupled with falling temperatures causes the foliage to mold . The species blooms regularly and willingly between May and June and it comes from southern Florida, western India and Mexico.
