Oncidium cebolleta

A species exceptional not only within the Oncidium genus . The plant is special in that the function of water reservoirs was taken over by unusual -looking cylindrical(almost round in cross-section), stiff leaves that reach lengths of 12 in/30 cm . They look a little like a rat's tail -hence the nickname of other Oncidium orchids with similar morphology . The flower spikes is overhanging ,branched and up to 24 in/60 cm long. It bears a few dozen 0.8 -in/2-cm-large flowers. The flower lip is yellow, while the other tepals are yellow-and -green and densely covered with brown- and -red spots . This epiphyte oftern grows in intensely isolated places;it therefore requires as much light and warmth as possible . It blooms between February and May and various forms of it were discovered in Central America and Brazil.
