Oncidium cheirophorum

A miniature representative of Oncidium -a genus rich in species and varieties . Its appearance ,small proportions and low cultivation demands make it a very attractive collection item. The pseudobulbs are barely 1.2 in/3 cm tall and bears a single ,6 - in/ 15 -cm0- long leaf on their apices. The pseudobulbs ' bases give rise to two delicate , branched flower spikes covered with dozen of golden -yellow flowers that are 0.6 in /1.5 cm across. The fragrant flowers last for up to 6 weeks on the plant . The species' name is derived from the shape of the lip that resembles a pair of spread arms. Grow it as you would any standard epiphyte . The flowers appear in the late summer and in the fall. The species is native to Nicaragua,Costa Rica and Colombia.
