OOncidium heteranthum

Oncidium heteranthum

This small (medium sized when in bloom ) orchid boasts a rare , curious feature -''two-floweredness'': Its 28 -in/ 70-cm -long ,richly branched inflorescence bears a number of tiny sterile yellow flowers( up to 0.2 in / 0.5 cm across) and only a smaller number(1-3 per branch) of much bigger yellow -and - brown flowers. The pseudobulbs are elongated ,up to 2 in / 5 cm long ,and each of the two leaves reaches a length of 6 in / 15 cm . This undemanding epiphyte will embellish any collection; it happens to grow for a long time and its inflorescence is immensely decorative and long -lived. The flowers are produced in the winter and spring . The plant inhabits rainforests over a vast area between Costa Rica on one end,and Peru and Bolivia on the other.
