Oncidium jonesianum var . pinotii

Another beautiful and highly sought-after orchid,a representative of the rat-tailed Oncidia. Its subulate leaves are round in cross-section ,about 8 in/20 cm long and overhanging . The flower raceme bears 10-15 wonderfully -colored flowers and is also downward -oriented. The pure white lip is yellowish at the base and spekled with red dots ;the other tepals are broad ,yellow-and -white with spots ranging in color between red and brown -and -red. Typically ,the spots are very small;the pinotii variety in the photo has them fused into bigger spots . Grow the species in the same way as O.cebolleta, but make sure to provide extra shade and misting . The inflorescence deveops between August and November .O. jonesianum comes from Paraguay ,Uruguay , Bolivia and southern Brazil.
