Oncidium proliferum

Oncidium proliferum

An impressive , ''viviparous ''epiphytic miniature -the bases of its flattened ,egg-shaped and almost transparent ,1.6 -in /4 -cm -long pseudobulbs give rise to trailing ,rotary ,segmented shoot reaching a length of over 6.5 ft /2cm that climbs the sorrounding branches or just hangs in the air. New daughter pseudobulbs eventually end their development on its individual internodes . Single brown -and-yellow flowers ,about 1 in / 2-3 cm across, grow on short spikes from the bases of the pseudobulbs. This orchid curiosity is not hard to cultivate :mount in a layer of moss on a wooden support ,allowing enough room for the shoot. The species requires relatively more light and moisture than average . It blooms irregularly ,usually in the winter and spring ,and comes from countries whose territories stretch in to the Amazonian lowlands .
