Oncidium sp

Oncidium sp

A fine alphine Oncidium orchid that is listed here as an ecological curiosity . Owing to the extreme ecological conditions reigninging in its habitat (namely , the high elevations of Oaxaca ,Mexico) ,it is almost impossible to cultivate . The plant forms gold-colored ,flattened pseudobulbs ended with thin leaves. The flowers are up to 1.2 in/ 3 cm in diameter and quite showy thanks to their broad yellow-lemon lip. The species inhabits sparse semi-de-ciduous oak forests in altitudes below and including 9,800 ft /3,000 m; in cultivation,it therefore needs round-the -year coolness, a certain amount of Uv -radiation and near-perfect venation -a combination that seems impossible to achive ... The plant blooms in the spring.
