Orchis coriophora

Orchis coriophora is one of the unobtrusive yet valuable members of its genus .Its stalk is foliaged mainly in the lower part and is up to 24 in/60 cm tall . The flowers are barely 0.8 in/2 cm across;they form a dese and rich inflorescence and oftern smell like bedbugs. The tepals are brown ,red ,pink or greenish ;the upper tepals droop a little to resemble a break-shaped helmet.Orchis coriophora usually inhabits infertile meadows and light forests ,but it has also been spotted in damper locations.It blooms,depending on the climate of its habitat,between April and June ,Even though it is considered largely as a European species ,it also grows in northern Africa and Asia Minor . This ecologically highly sensitive Orchis species is still relatively plentiful in southern Europe .
